Recognising and celebrating diversity and extraordinary accomplishments within the OSCAR sector
The OSCAR Foundation OSCAR Awards recognise and celebrate diversity and extraordinary accomplishments within the OSCAR sector. Held biannually to coincide with The OSCAR Foundation National Conference, these awards are divided into six categories to celebrate the many important parts in out of school care and recreation. The award categories are
- Individual Award
- Organisation Award
- Youth Award (16-21 years)
- Best New Programme Award
- Outstanding OSCAR Programme Award
- Family OSCAR Award
The process begins with nominations for Regional OSCAR Awards. The regions are divided by the areas each OSCAR Advisor services. These regions are
- Northland
- Auckland
- Thames, Coromandel and Bay of Plenty
- Waikato, King Country (including Taumaranui & Ohakune) and Taranaki
- Hawkes Bay (including Taupo), Poverty Bay, Manawatu and Wanganui (including Waiouru)
- Wellington, Wairarapa and Kapiti Coast (including Levin)
- Nelson, Marlborough, West Coast and Buller
- Canterbury (including Timaru)
- Otago (including Oamaru), Queenstown, Wanaka and Southland
Nominations are welcome from anyone including parents, work colleagues, OSCAR programmes and schools. Self-nominations are accepted.
Regional OSCAR Awards for each category may be awarded in each of the nine regions. The winners of the Regional OSCAR Awards are determind by a judging panel, and are profiled on our website. Regional OSCAR Award winners are awarded at The OSCAR Foundation Network Meetings.
The next step in the OSCAR Awards process is National OSCAR Awards. The finalists for these awards are the winners of the Regional OSCAR Awards from the nine regions. The winners of these awards are determined by The OSCAR Foundation Members votes and by our judging panel. Members of The OSCAR Foundation can vote on our website based on the profiles of the Regional OSCAR Award winners. Members votes count towards 50% of the final decision, with the remaining 50% made by our judging panel. National OSCAR Award winners are awarded at The OSCAR Foundation Awards Dinner during the National Conference. Winners are flown to the Awards Dinner to be our special guests.
The final step in the OSCAR Awards process is to announce the winner of the prestigious Supreme OSCAR Award. This winner is selected from the six National OSCAR Award winners and are also awarded at The OSCAR Foundation Awards Dinner during the National Conference. The winner of this award is chosen by our judging panel.
