About The Grant
The Peter Heaslip Scholarship Grant is a $1000 Scholarship Grant awarded to a person employed within the OSCAR Sector. It was first awarded in 2008.

The award is designed to demonstrate enhanced professionalism as a result from training. This training will enrich in the life or lives of a particular child or children, and will be used to further professionalism in the OSCAR sector.

History
The Peter Heaslip Scholarship Grant is an OSCAR Foundation Board initiative. Peter Heaslip’s name was chosen to acknowledge his efforts in the OSCAR sector.

Peter was Chairperson of The OSCAR Foundation Board from 2002 to 2006 and is still an active Board member today. Peter has contributed to many developments and acheivements through his work on the Board as well as working closely with the CEO. These contributions have helped with The Ministry of Social Development’s 5-year action plan and the Open Polytechnic of New Zealand’s 40 credit OSCAR Certificate.

Peter gave his blessing for his name to be used for the Scholarship Grant. He supported the idea of the fund being used to support training as long as there was a demonstrable way to show that the training had enriched childhood.

The Board established the Peter Heaslip Scholarship Grant and decided it was to be presented at The OSCAR Foundation National Conference. A Committee, comprising of Peter Heaslip, Murray Upton, Tina Green and Karen Morgan was established to fine tune and oversee this initiative.
