There are no mandatory legal requirements for OSCAR programmes to meet any childcare regulations or standards of care.  It is especially important for parents and caregivers to check that their child is receiving safe, quality care because there are no licensing requirements or regulations covering OSCAR services.

Some programmes voluntarily use other minimum standards written by The OSCAR Foundation or other OSCAR Networks. Many OSCAR programmes are approved by the Department of Child, Youth and Family (CYF), which means that they have chosen to meet a series of minimum operating standards.

These standards are
Programme environment
Programme operation
Health and Safety
Child Protection
Supervision
Emergencies
Staff
Buildings and Facilities
Recordkeeping
Finance
Camps (if applicable)

Parents who use these OSCAR programmes which are CYF Approved for OSCAR Services are able to apply for the OSCAR Subsidy from Work and Income.
