What Happens At OSCAR Programmes?

OSCAR programmes are more than child-minding services. They are opportunities to provide leisure and recreation activities that not only enrich the child but also enrich family life and enhance learning done at school.

Focus On Recreation
It is important for OSCAR programme to recognise the need for recreation and time out from strict organised schedules. There are programmes which provide opportunities for homework to be completed (many busy working parents appreciate this), but there focus should still be on recreation.

A well balanced programme includes both individual and group activities. Children can be encouraged to join group activities but should not feel unduly pressured; if a choice can be offered then everyone will usually be happy. Activities and equipment should be appropriate for the age range of the children involved.
