Games

Balloon Tag
Everyone has a balloon on a long piece of string tield to their ankle. The object is for everyone to burst everyone's balloon while preventing their own from being stomped on. The last couple of players are the winners (but only if they haven't been hiding in the corner!)

Twins
Everyone sits back to back with a partner and links arms at their elbows. The trick is then to try and stand up without unlinking. Once players have mastered this, try with four people. No need to stop there, keep going until the whole group is working together to stand up!

Relays

  • T-Shirt Relay (minimum of 2 teams of 4 players)
The first person in each team puts on an oversized T-Shirt. They face the second person in line and hold both hands. On the word “Go”, the rest of the team pulls the shirt up over the first players head, up his arms and down the next players arm and finally completely on the next player (at which stage the T-shirt will be inside out). Now player two turns to player three and they start again.
  • Giants Underpants (This is run similar to a sack race or Three-legged relay)
Two team members per run both have to fit into one pair of extra-large underpants. (Look out for them on sale or make them yourself) Change the pants to the next two runners in the team after one circuit.
  • Cardboard Box Relay
You will need large appliance boxes e.g.: Washing machine or Clothes dryer. Cut the bottom and top flaps off and lay the box on its side. The first person gets in the box, sideways and crawls so that the box “rolls”.
  • Bunny Hop Race
Hop to the finish line holding a balloon between the knees or two team mates run tossing the balloon back and forth or they have to get to the finish line with the balloon squashed between their heads (No hands). You can probably think of other funny ways of transporting the balloon.
  • Walk This Way Relay
Write different ways of moving, onto cards, i.e. crawling, running backwards, hop on one leg while singing a song. Each new person in the relay selects one walk from a face down pile.
  • Messy Face Relay
Hide whistles in whipped cream on plates (as many as there are players). Each person has to run to the plate, then find and blow a whistle, with their hands behind their back.
  • Lazy Bones Race
Each team (5 people) has a blanket. Four team members (one on each corner of the blanket) carries one person on the blanket to a designated point, then they rotate so that a new person is carried. This needs to be played with even-sized team members, on a soft grass surface.

Activities

Toothpaste Art Box
These are great to store artwork pencils, pens, crayons in them. Make the boxes different sizes so that they appear in tiered style if preferred. These look really great painted black and then with gold or silver patterns or animal type skin patterns.

What you need:

  • 9 empty toothpaste cardboard boxes
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Poster paint
  • Paintbrush

To make the art box:

  1. Cut all the boxes in half, leaving the closed bases intact.
  2. Glue one side of each of them and stick them together to make a cube (can use double sided tape).
  3. Paint the outside of the containers.

Egg Carton Spiders
What you need:

  • Cardboard egg carton
  • Eyes
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Hat elastic
  • Black paint

To make the spiders:

  1. Cut the egg carton into individual egg cups trimming neatly around each one.
  2. Paint with black paint.
  3. Turn the cup upside down, so the flat side is facing upwards. Glue on eyes.
  4. Use pipe cleaners for legs.
  5. Suspend froma piece of hat elastic.

Soap Balls

What you need:

  • Lux flakes
  • Scented oil
  • Additions like lavender flowers, rolled oats, herbs, glitter, dried flowers etc
  • Boiling water
  • Bowl and stirring implement

To make the Soap Balls:

  1. Put 2 cups of lux flakes in a bowl and add quite a few drops of scented oil and any additions you like.
  2. Add approx ˝ cup of boiling water slowly, until it just sticks together.
  3. Kneed it, in your hands over the bowl, to bind it to an even smooth consistency. Add more soap flakes if it is too sloppy.
  4. Mould it in your hands to 3 or 4 balls, squashing together to keep it tightly packed.
  5. Leave in a warm dry place for a few days.
  6. Wrap beautifully.

Recipes

Pita Pizzas
Spread rounds of pita bread with tomato paste. Add chopped, ham, bacon or salami, crushed pineapple, onion, chopped parsley ... whatever you can think of. Finish with a layer of grated cheese and bake at 200C for about 10minutes.

Bread Case Savouries
You will need bread slices, grated cheese, green herb stock, rashers bacon or shaved ham (but into small bits), 4 eggs and 1/2 cup milk. Cut bread to fit into patty tins. You can cut into circles, 1/2 triangle shapes or just use one per person for a larger savoury. Butter bread and place buttered side down in muffin tins. In a bowl, combine all ingredients. Put a heaped spoon full in each bread case. Bake at 200C for 10-15 minutes until golden brown. You can also cook empty bread cases in advance and store in an artight container or freeze until needed. For other fillings, try creamed corn, baked beans or spaghetti.
