GO KIDS! is a nationwide project to enhance the fitness and health of children participating in Out of School Care and Recreation through a programme that provides regular healthy activities.

It is a community partnership between The OSCAR Foundation and Coca-Cola. Currently over 750 OSCAR groups participate in the Go Kids! programme, serving approximately 100,000 young New Zealanders.

The Children's Nutrition Survey results released in November 2003 show after school activity is undertaken by only 35% of boys aged 5-14 and 43% of girls aged 5-14.

The GO KIDS! programme meets key recommendations from Sport and Recreation New Zealand (SPARC) by providing children with opportunities for daily physical activity and encouraging a range of movement experiences.

The GO KIDS! activity programme includes a Warm Up / Cool Down component; Fun Factor, including confidence courses and relays; Step With It, a walking / running component including scavenger hunts and orienteering trails; Game On, 'which introduces both physical and co-operative games, and Snack Attack which provides a variety of recipe ideas for a health morning or afternoon tea.

Two exciting additions to the original programme are the Olympics unit which provides ideas on a variety of fun team events promoting participation and co-operation, and the Superstar Challenge, which provides information and techniques for teaching children physical skills necessary for successful participation in physical activity.

The OSCAR Foundation sees the GO KIDS! initiative as a major strategy to put activity back into out of school time.
