A Word From The Local OSCAR Advisor Happy New Year! I trust those of you operating before and/or after school care have had a lovely Christmas period and break from the work place. Those who have offered Holiday Programmes over the summer holiday period will be more than ready for a break – big or small! It has been a pleasure cruising around over the holidays visiting many of your amazing programmes. I really enjoy seeing children eagerly anticipating their outings or planned events and activities and watching staff excitedly plan and prepare for these. The overall atmosphere of fun and excitement is so contagious, many thanks for sharing your time and experiences with me and for your amazing efforts and commitment to Enriching Childhood.
Police Vetting There recently been some changes to the review period for Police Vetting. The two year cycle for review has now been extended to a three year cycle, in line with teacher’s vetting cycles. There is however still a lengthy delay with the Vetting and Licensing Service, my suggestion would be to action police vets every 2.5 years to avoid out of date police vets occurring at the three year period.
Networking and Training I would like to extend a warm thank you to Liz Atkins of Kapai Choice in Rotorua who hosted a wonderful networking meeting last term and many thanks to Jo Goldsbury of Kidzworld Rotorua for sharing her extensive knowledge, expertise, tips and ideas about staff training, discipline and programme planning. I certainly learnt a few new ideas and judging by the furious note taking of most present everyone else did too!
Both training and networking take place early in the term this year, this term we are networking in Tauranga at Kidicorp’s School’s Out. School’s Out offer many wonderful OSCAR programmes and have a venue well worth a look at! Thanks Paul, Dianne and the team for enabling this to happen.
I welcome Andrea Smythe, National Funding Coordinator for The OSCAR Foundation to expertly lead us through the funding process. This first-rate workshop is aimed at those who complete funding applications. It is designed to help you ensure your funding application meets the financial expectations of the Ministry. A good application, plus a previous good financial track record will increase your chances of receiving a 2 year funded period. This is an important and worthwhile training event limited to a maximum of 20 participants, I urge you to RSVP at your earliest convenience.
