Professional Development Opportunities
A Word From Your OSCAR Advisor It is hard to believe we are now into 2010!! I hope you all managed to spend some quality time relaxing with family and friends over the Christmas and New Year break. Thank you all for your support last year. I enjoyed working with you all and appreciated your patience and understanding with my limited hours. It was fantastic to have such awesome attendance at network meetings and training days. I admire your commitment, enthusiasm and passion for the children that you work with and the services that you provide. I think we should all be extremely proud of how the OSCAR sector is growing in the region, the professional way in which you manage your programmes and the quality opportunities that are being offered to children in the Top of the South region.
The sector will definitely continue on this positive path with a wide variety of professional development, networking and activity opportunities planned again for this year. Both Nelson City Council and Tasman District Council are again providing fantastic support for the OSCAR sector, which will enable The OSCAR Foundation to offer many positive and innovative activities. I also hope that many of you from Marlborough are also able to take advantage of these opportunities taking place in the "Top of the South".
Big Day Out The Big Day Out will continue this year but will expand to better cater for the increasing number of children (and programmes) wanting to be involved in these action packed days. These will run in both the April and September/October holiday periods, with activities being run simultaneously at Bridge Valley Christian Camp and Teapot Valley Christian Camp, with two OSCAR Fun Days taking place in the July holiday period. There will also be quality tutors contracted again to run activities in each of the holiday periods to add to the variety of opportunities that you are providing for the children attending your programmes.
Networking Meetings Networking meetings will be taking place once per term in Nelson/Tasman to provide a formal opportunity for networking and an opportunity to participate in training workshops. There will be three regional training days offered, one in Nelson, one in Tasman and one in Blenheim that will provide quality professional development opportunities for both management and staff. All dates are stated below, and were also included on the wall planner you would have received from The OSCAR Foundation. Please put them in your diaries as I would love to see you all there; by making a commitment to up-skill and network with other OSCAR providers you can share ideas, increase your knowledge and learn new skills which will enrich the opportunities and experience that you provide the children who attend your programmes.
Conference The OSCAR Foundation National Conference is happening on 21 – 23 May in Wellington. This is a fantastic occasion and extremely beneficial for all that attend. It would be great if we could have a large contingent from our region attending.
