A Word From The Local OSCAR Advisors
Welcome to Kelly
Kia Ora, my name is Kelly. I am proud to be the new OSCAR advisor for Otago and Southland. I am Dunedin born and bred so have very strong ties and a love for the south.

Before joining the OSCAR team I have spent the last eight years studying and working within education, most recently operating and teaching a young parent unit in Dunedin which I continue to do with enthusiasm. The last couple of years have also seen me managing both after school and holiday programmes which I really enjoyed and learnt allot from.

I am a true child advocate so am always looking for ways we can enjoy and encourage children to live to their best potential all the while providing a safe, stimulating and fun environment for them to grow within.

I am enjoying getting to know providers within my area, it is great to see so many wonderful programmes available for children. Please feel free to drop me an email or give me a call if you would like any advice/support or even just to introduce yourself and your programme.

I love the thinking outside the box ideas so bring it on Otago and Southland WOW me and keep up the great work.

Have you had a chance to check out our blog yet? This is a great way to see what is going on not only within our region but also to see what is happening throughout other regions. Each advisor has turns to put one up so you get a great range of topics, ideas and advice within a small easy to read section. Let me know what you think of it and if you have any ideas or suggestions for my next entry. After just using the word "blog" so many times I had to search what the word actually meant so thought I would share, it is a combination of the words Web Log.

Professional Development Opportunities
As a new advisor I am spending the first term learning my new role and starting to meet providers and visit programmes.

In Term Two we have the OSCAR Conference in Wellington. Registrations are open now so grab the Early Bird registrations with cheaper deals (Early Bird prices close 19th March). This is going to be a great opportunity to meet and share experiences with other OSCAR providers as well as coming away with knowledge, ideas, resources, training and encouragement. I would love to see as many Otago and Southland providers there as possible.

Term Three will see the beginning of our training and networking meetings which will continue each term from there. If you have any ideas or topics you would like to cover please let me know. CPS are going to be holding an OSCAR workshop in Dunedin during August which I am sure will be highly attended. Further information regarding both these training and networking opportunities will be online from term two.
