A Word From The Local OSCAR Advisor
Kia-ora koutou
Our traditional holiday season is in full swing, heralded by the magic of Christmas and New Year time with family. I have had some time to think about the seasons of life and wish to send aroha, love and support to those in our region who have grieved the loss of family and friends close to them. We are all here to support you in whatever ways we can over the coming months.

Warmest congratulations extended to those who have welcomed in new life, new friends, new opportunities and achieved their goals over the holidays; we look forward to watching you grow and develop and making the most of 2010.

Bringing good things to life is what OSCAR is all about

  • It is about being open to the best of what everyone, everywhere has to give across your programme or organisation and ensuring that learning can transfer across all your valued relationships.
  • It is about taking time to make sure everyone counts and everyone knows they count.
  • It is about putting the right person in the right job - this can be more important than developing a strategy.
  • It is about genuine self-confidence and the true test of self-confidence is the courage to be open and honest.
  • It is about having fun; remember celebrations energise people and energise an organisation.
  • It is about knowing when to meddle and when to let go - this should be pure instinct.
  • It is about to nurturing all these qualities in yourself and enjoying becoming a better leader.

2010 is shaping up to be a great year
We have our National OSCAR Conference in Wellington to look forward to. I look forward to planning and co-coordinating with you all on a range of creative and collaborative strategies to get as many your staff and management as possible to the Conference. This investment in people holds exceptional wealth, both now and for the future.

We have in our region a healthy number of programmes that took the time to submit applications for the OSCAR Awards. Big pat on the back for your commitment to reflect in this way, to evaluate your programmes in action and put your findings out to be measured and assessed against your peers. We also have in our region and nationally, programmes involved in the pilot project of Te Korowai Kounga – Quality Assurance for the OSCAR sector. This is a huge step and learning curve for all. I wanted to say THANK YOU to everyone involved, your courage, commitment and honest approach are very generous gifts to our sector for future years and to children/tamariki and their families /whanau.

I look forward to this year as it unfolds, with an open mind, heart and attitude to all connections I will make, all challenges I will face and all the professional and personal support and knowledge I can offer each and every one of you…bringing good things to your OSCAR life.

Have a safe and busy term and please be in touch any time for anything, no matter what.
